What happened
Bouygues Telecom entered exclusive negotiations to acquire 100% of La Poste Telecom — operator of La Poste Mobile, France's largest MVNO with about 2.3 million subscribers — at an enterprise value of €950 million. The deal, which outmaneuvered host network SFR's right of first refusal, closed in late 2024 with a distribution partnership keeping La Poste's post-office network selling the service.
Why it matters
France's biggest MVNO exit ever, and a textbook host-network hijack: La Poste Mobile ran on SFR, but Bouygues paid up to migrate 2.3 million subscribers onto its own network. The deal put a public price on MVNO subscribers at scale — roughly €400 each — and showed that in saturated markets, carriers will pay real money to buy someone else's customer base rather than fight for gross adds.
