What happened

Hewlett Packard Enterprise agreed to acquire Juniper Networks for $40 per share in cash, an equity value of roughly $14 billion, to combine Juniper's AI-native networking portfolio — anchored by Mist AI — with HPE's Aruba networking business. After a US Department of Justice antitrust challenge settled with remedies, the deal closed in July 2025, roughly doubling HPE's networking business.

Why it matters

The biggest networking deal in a decade was priced on an AI story: Juniper's Mist platform was the asset, and 'AI-native networking' the justification for a hefty premium. For telecom operators, consolidation among the vendors who build carrier routing and data-center fabric means fewer suppliers with more pricing power — at exactly the moment AI traffic is forcing everyone to re-architect their networks.
