What happened
Dutch incumbent KPN agreed to acquire the Dutch activities of Youfone, a leading budget provider already active on KPN's network, in a transaction of around 200 million euros. Youfone's Belgian operations were not part of the deal.
Why it matters
Host operators buying their own MVNOs is the quiet consolidation pattern of mature markets. KPN paid real money to own the value segment rather than merely wholesale to it, a signal of how much margin sits in the brands riding on carrier networks.
