What happened
MDA Space announced on 8 July 2026 that it has entered into a firm and irrevocable offer to acquire an approximately 70% interest in French earth‑observation and satellite IoT services provider CLS for approximately €567 million (subject to adjustments), with CNES retaining ~30%. MDA said the transaction would be completed by end‑2026/early‑2027 subject to approvals and employee consultation.
Why it matters
The deal vertically integrates satellite manufacturing/operations with downstream AI‑driven analytics and data services, accelerating consolidation in space‑based geointelligence and strengthening suppliers' ability to sell end‑to‑end satcom + data offerings to governments and enterprises.
