What happened
Verizon agreed to give Vertical Bridge exclusive rights to lease, operate, and manage 6,339 of its wireless towers across all 50 states for approximately $3.3 billion, with Verizon leasing back capacity on the sites for at least ten years. The deal, among the largest US tower transactions in years, converts owned steel into cash weeks after Verizon committed $20 billion to acquire Frontier.
Why it matters
Follow the capital: towers out, fiber in. Verizon is arbitraging the valuation gap between infrastructure that trades at REIT multiples and the fiber assets it believes will define the next decade — funding the Frontier bet without touching the dividend. The quiet consequence is competitive: independent tower ownership generally means friendlier terms for everyone else who needs to hang radios, including the neutral-host and private-network builders.
