What happened
Lebara Nigeria commenced nationwide commercial operations and began selling/activating paid service (physical SIMs and eSIMs) via its My LebaraNG app and retail agents on 2026-09-14, operating under a Tier‑5 MVNO licence held by VAS2Nets. Customers can complete remote KYC and activate service the same day.
Why it matters
This is Lebara Group’s first entry into Africa and converts one of Nigeria’s many MVNO licences into a live commercial operator, signalling that host‑network deals (here with Airtel Nigeria) plus digital onboarding can accelerate real MVNO market entry in large, price‑sensitive markets. It also validates the regulator’s tiered MVNO framework by showing a software‑led, eSIM‑enabled entrant moving immediately to paid activations.
