What happened
Lidl Connect (Lidl Ireland) began commercial customer activations on 5 October 2026 via the Lidl Plus app (eSIM) and 0.99€ physical SIMs sold in Lidl stores; the service is delivered by 1GLOBAL on the eir network and the launch included a limited “€8.99 price for life” offer for the first 100,000 customers. Customers were able to sign up and activate paid service on launch day.
Why it matters
A major European retailer moving to an app-first MVNO model (eSIM + in-store physical SIM) shows how retail scale + eSIM platforms are lowering barriers to large consumer MVNO launches and will intensify price competition on incumbent host networks. The use of 1GLOBAL as the commercial operator highlights the growing role of MVNE/eSIM platform providers in enabling rapid, multi-market rollouts for retail brands.
