What happened
Salam Mobile launched commercial service in Saudi Arabia on February 15, 2022 as one of the Kingdom's newest licensed MVNOs, offering digital-first prepaid plans over Zain KSA's network after being unveiled by regulator CITC at the LEAP technology conference.
Why it matters
Saudi Arabia's regulator has been deliberately reopening the MVNO market after a rocky first wave, and Salam Mobile was the proof that new virtual operators could still get licensed and launch in the Kingdom — a signal for brands eyeing the Gulf's young, digital-heavy subscriber base.
