What happened
Banglalink launched a commercial satellite-to-mobile service powered by Starlink (Starlink Mobile) on 9 October 2026; Banglalink customers can access the service via the MyBL app (a 4G phone + Banglalink SIM required) and the operator promoted an initial free/intro offer on launch day. Customers were able to activate and use the paid/commissioned service from the announced launch date.
Why it matters
The rollout is another example of MNO–LEO satellite integration moving from tests to live commercial service, signalling that terrestrial operators are adopting D2D satellite overlays for resilience and coverage extension rather than waiting for dedicated satellite-native handsets. This accelerates a new competitive dynamic for MNOs and MVNOs in underserved and emergency-use segments.
